It is estimated that up to 95% of the adult population has been infected with EBV at some point in their lives. Most people become infected with EBV in childhood or adolescence and have no symptoms or only mild symptoms. EBV is typically transmitted through bodily fluids, such as saliva, and can cause several different diseases, including infectious mononucleosis (also known as “mono“ or “glandular fever“), which is characterized by symptoms such as fever, sore throat, fatigue, and swollen lymph nodes. In some cases, EBV can also cause more serious illnesses, such as certain types of cancer, such as Hodgkin's lymphoma and Burkitt's lymphoma. However, these are relatively rare. There is currently no cure for EBV, but most people recover from mono within a few weeks to a few months with proper care and treatment. Antiviral medications can help to reduce the severity and duration of symptoms, and pain relievers can help to relieve sore throat and other aches and pains. #microbiology #virology #epsteinbarrvirus #fmge #fmgevideos #rapidrevisionfmge #fmgejan2023 #mbbslectures #nationalexitexam #nationalexittest #neetpg #usmlepreparation #usmlestep1 #fmge #usmle #drgbhanuprakash #medicalstudents #medicalstudent #medicalcollege #neetpg2023 #usmleprep #usmlequickreview #usmlefirstaid
