Toxoplasmosis: The Parasite That Reduces Brain Functioning (Decreased Processing Speed, Working Memory and More) Toxoplasmosis is an infection with the protozoal species Toxoplasma gondii. Congenital toxoplasmosis is known to cause mental and cognitive deficits in a developing fetus; however, this has not been previously shown to occur in acquired toxoplasmosis until more recently.
