My project “HYMNS OF FRIENDLY COUNTRIES“ is being continued with the Croatian National Anthem. “Lijepa naša domovino“ (“Our Beautiful Motherland“) is the national anthem of Croatia. The text was written by Antun Mihanovych. It was first published under the title “Horvatska domovina“ (“Croatian Motherland“) in 1835. The music was written by Josip Runjanin (December 8, 1821 – February 2, 1878) in 1846. The song was passed on from mouth to mouth, and in 1861 it was recorded by Vatroslav Lichtenegger, arranged for four voices and published for the first time in 1864. Between 1918 and 1941, “Lijepa naša domovino“ together with the hymns “Boje Pravde“ (the anthem of Serbia) and “Naprej zastava slave“ (anthem of Slovenia) became the anthem of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, later Yugoslavia. Before the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1991, it was used as the anthem of the Socialist Republic of Croatia as part of Yugoslavia.
