In this video I illustrate how I designed a GT3 style TPU belt for my Marblevator, Caterpillars 3D printed model. For the Marblevator, Caterpillars design, my design requirement was for a belt 91mm between the motor sprocket center and the idler sprocket center. I also required 50mm arc lengths at each end of the belt to allow enough radius for the caterpillars to make the turn. Finally, I knew the sum of the lengths of the sides and arcs must be an even multiple of the GT3 belt tooth width of 3mm. So (91 91 50 50) = 282, and 282 / 3 = 94 teeth. The final belt, with magnet pockets and paddles, was 3D printed in TPU on a TPU raft using an Ultimaker S5 3D printer. Designed using Autodesk Fusion 360.
