Cellphones belonging to the main suspects in the Crocus City Hall attack contained various pro-Ukraine images, Russia’s Investigative Committee (IC) has said. In an update statement on the case, the IC said it found various images on one of the cellphones, including photos of Ukrainian soldiers and a photo of a man wrapped in the Ukrainian flag standing in front of a destroyed building. An image of a soldier standing on a tank and holding the Ukrainian flag contains the caption ‘The Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.’ ‘This data may suggest a connection between the terrorist attack and the [Ukraine] special military operation,’ said IC spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko, adding that investigators were checking whether ‘Ukrainian security services and international Islamist terrorist group’ were involved in planning or funding the attack. The IC had previously reported finding evidence of suspects receiving money and cryptocurrency from Ukraine, but Kiev and its Western allies have always denied any involvement in the attack, which killed 145 people and injured over 500 more.
