When the news headline broke in 2016 that Fox and Friends host Gretchen Carlson was suing Fox News chief Roger Ailes over sexual harassment, social media had yet to label the #metoo movement. The news sent shockwaves through Fox News and contributed to the scrutiny of the behavior of executives at major media organizations. Carlson and her team of legal advisors, had chosen to sue Ailes rather than Fox News due to a forced arbitration clause in her contract which would have given the television giant a big upper hand in keeping the scandal quiet and maintaining Ailes in his position. Carlson has turned her story into a fight to end forced arbitration clauses in employment contracts, especially with regard to possible cases of protected class legal action. A piece of legislation that removes protected class legal action from forced arbitration clauses was passed and signed into law in March 2022. Carlson talks with Katie about her journey and watching the legislation be signed at the White House.
