A London shopkeeper has come under heavy fire from his local community after briefly ‘strangling’ a violent shoplifter. Sohail Sindho, who sells hair and cosmetics at Peckham Hair and Cosmetics, got into an altercation with a woman over his store’s lack of refund policy. After refusing to give her a refund, the woman decided to go on a mostly peaceful shoplifting spree, which also involved hitting Sindho with her stolen items and slapping him in the head. Sindho responded by grabbing the woman, briefly with his hands around her neck, before restraining her with her arms behind her back. After a few inexplicable cries of ‘rape’ the shop’s few remaining customers broke the pair apart. Edilenny Douteo, who filmed the incident, claimed that he ‘strangled her very, very badly,’ and, bizarrely, that he pushed her into the shop. She also claimed that the woman was merely trying to take what was owed to her. Sindho, however, defended his actions as ‘detaining, not choking.’ Naturally, the anti-racists descended on the Asian-owned business, plastering crudely drawn ‘closing down’ signs on the shutters and making numerous threatening remarks to the police. The protesters also claimed that it was an ‘example of everyday male violence against women.’ The woman has since been arrested for shoplifting.
