This video describes the PhD research of Dr. Povilas Šimonis in an artistic way. 1st verse discusses applications of yeast cells and how electric stimulation can improve their efficiency; 2nd verse focuses on the insatiability of yeasts and electric pulses as a means to permeabilize their membranes as well as cell walls. The goal of permeabilization is to extract or introduce desired molecules; 3rd verse tells us that very strong and very short pulses can be applied to selectively inactivate yeast cells while keeping beneficial bacteria alive. “As a scientist and an artist I always strive to represent science in more attractive and accessible media than publications.
