Bruges-la-morte is the film adaptation of a novel by Georges Rodenbach and tells the story of a 40-year-old upper-class widower who only lives for the memory of his dead wife. When the melancholy overwhelms him, he goes walking through Bruges where everything reminds him of his wife. During one of these lonely walks, he meets a young ballerina who looks very much like his wife. The man gets totally confused.
