Novi avion je bio radni naziv za jugoslovenski program lakog višenamenskog nadzvučnog borbenog aviona. Korišćena je skraćenica NA, koja se istovremeno odnosila na Novi avion i na Nadzvučni avion. Prve ideje o pokretanju programa, u SFRJ su nastale, posle poletanja prototipa aviona J-22 Orao, tokom sedamdesetih godina. Program je pokrenut radi održavanja kontinuiteta, opremanja JRV avionima iz vlastitog razvoja i proizvodnje i zapošljavanja kapaciteta jugoslovenske vazduhoplovne industrije, u domenu visoke tehnologije. Program realicije, za Novi avion, je urađen i razmatran 1986. godine. Svi radovi na tome programu su prekinuti s raspadom SFRJ, krajem osamdesetih godina, prošlog veka. Novi avion bi bio jednomotorna lakša verzija avion Rafal sa određenim specifičnostima. Planirano da je da Novi avion bude zamena za avione MiG-21 u naoružanju JNA. Novi avion bi bio na istom nivou poput indijskog aviona „HAL Tejas” ili kineskog „JF-17 Thunder” The new aircraft was the working name for the Yugoslav program of light multi-purpose supersonic fighter aircraft. The abbreviation NA was used to refer to both the New Plane and the Supersonic Plane at the same time. The first ideas for launching the program in the SFRY came about after the take-off of the prototype J-22 Orao aircraft during the 1970s. The program was initiated to maintain continuity, equip JRV aircraft from its own development and production and employment of the capabilities of the Yugoslav aviation industry in the field of high technology. The reality program, for the New Airplane, was developed and discussed in 1986. All work on this program was interrupted by the disintegration of the SFRY in the late 1980s. The new aircraft would be a single-engine lighter version of the Rafal aircraft with some specific features. It is planned that the New aircraft will be a replacement for MiG-21 aircraft in the JNA armament. The new aircraft would be on par with the Indian plane “HAL Tejas“ or the Chinese “JF-17 Thunder“
