Today we depart from an abandoned goods yard: Maarn Goods. Until 1933 this was a very extensive yard with turntables, maintenance sheds and sidings. After the marshalling yard in Amersfoort was put into use, part of the tracks in Maarn remained in use for sand extraction. Many railway embankments have been constructed with sand that comes from here. Today, the A12 motorway runs straight through the old railway site and the excavation is transformed into a nature reserve. Here you can still find the remains of two turntables. Normally this train runs from Nijmegen, but due to construction work at Ede-Wageningen, we depart here. Between Wormerveer and Krommenie you can still see the classic Citroën Mehari, which seems to not have moved for months. Do you know why? Enjoy watching!
