Olympia, London. Interior of a hardware store. Various shots of the goods on display. A woman in a leopard print coat looks at teapots. C/Us of hammer and shears. Narrator talks of how sales techniques have changed: “Supermarket appeal has taken over from the days of 60 years ago when a housewife could visit a hardware store and be certain of politeness and personal attention...“ Various shots of a mock up a Victorian hardware shop in a London exhibition at Olympia. Shopkeeper and customer wear period dress and all the goods in the shop are supposedly of the period. The courtesy of the shopkeeper is emphasised and compared to the hard sell tactics of the sixties. The woman customer looks at an old fashioned carpet beater and various other goods.
