Paypal: Donate via American Friends of Wigmore Hall: The programme brings another reminder of the durable and mutually beneficial relationship between Saint-Saëns and Fauré, though the latter’s Second Piano Quintet (1921) – which Aaron Copland considered the composer’s masterpiece – is dedicated to another colleague, Paul Dukas. In turn dedicated to Queen Elisabeth of the Belgians, Fauré’s Second Violin Sonata premièred in 1917, and the Saint-Saëns Trio in 1892, which monumental work may be considered his chamber music masterpiece.
