Rare Onyx Black 1954 Chevrolet Corvette. According to the previous owner, a Corvette historian and the Mecum Auctions representation, this rare roadster is believed to be one of only four produced in black in 1954. According to a Corvette historian's registry, this 1954 corvette was born in black on July 8th, this black beauty was sold new at White-Allan Chevrolet, Dayton Ohio to the original owner in El Paso, TX and then sold to Victor Hernandez in 2003, still in black. This gorgeous black and red roadster was recently purchased by American Dream Machines, from a high-end classic corvette collector pictured in the ad at Mecum auction and was the center piece of their Hooked on Corvettes collection, because it was believed to be one of only four black cars that were ever sold. (Please see pictures of the the Mecum Promotional information) The estimated auction value was, $150,000-$200,000, plus commission fees. This very well could be one of the four black Corvettes from the factory, but without a build sheet and no paint, trim codes in 1954 it, becomes difficult for us to substantiate. This is an extremely well preserved black 1954 Corvette roadster that has newer black paint and a mix of new and extremely we preserved original chrome and stainless. The sporty red and white interior shows very well with nice original, well preserved gauges and steering wheel and with a tan soft top and red interior. Under the hood is the original 235 cubic inch Blue Flame six cylinder engine with triple side-draft Carter carburetors matted to a Powerglide automatic transmission and dual exhaust. Rolling on correct steel wheels, wide whites and Corvette spinner wheel covers. Here is a link to to the previous owner discussing the 1954 Corvette and his collection.
