Experienced people know the dangers of ashi garami, so you’ll often encounter resistance when you enter your irimi ashi attacks. The most common defenses involved someone clearing your feet in order to regain mobility and a chance to pass the guard. Here we’re looking at what to do once the legs are separated and you’re losing the connection to your partner. To begin with, we look for an alternative leg entanglement - the x-guard. X-guard gives us the benefit of inside position on our partner and offers a number of good off-balancing options. In cases where X-guard fails, we can re-entangle with reverse X and begin working leg attacks once again via “double trouble” and cross ashi garami. Finally we look at controlling a single leg with our ARMS rather than our LEGS and recovering to the standing position to threaten the back. All three of these will provide good ways to followup that initial counter and keep you engage with the legs throughout. ⭐ ➡️ MY BIO (by John Danaher): === Like this video?
