Record-breaking Cyclone Kirsti is moving through Latvia: trains are stopped, many are without power

Due to damage to electrical contact networks caused by the hurricane, train traffic on the Olaine-Jelgava section and to Jurmala was suspended on Monday. In the center of Riga early on Monday morning there was moderate damage from the hurricane. Approximately 30,000 customers were without power for about 6 hours Monday morning. The bad weather will continue during the day. Due to the bad weather, streets in many parts of the city are flooded and trees are broken, making traffic difficult.
