The Nagasaki Biopark is a kind of zoo, but unlike most zoos, where I end up in tears to see the animals pent up like criminals in a prison, the biopark allows people to get close to most of the animals, feed them, and pet them if they are not aggressive. The more dangerous animals are behind glass, not bars, and can still be fed in most cases. You can walk into a lot of the pens and touch the animals, or they are in pools where if they come up to the edge, you can touch them. The animals are kept in groups of 2 animals (most are large groups!), so they aren't lonely. The park is very clean, the staff are always cleaning up any mess that the animals make. Most of the animals can be fed with food provided by the park. At Safari parks, like the ones in Oita and Yamaguchi, people can get close to larger animals, the space is appropriate for their size and behaviour. Over all, my experiences at the Nagasaki Biopark have been satisfying, and not one tear has been shed!
