The Penguins began their three game road trip north of the border with a game against the Montreal Canadiens. Sidney Crosby got the scoring started with his first goal of the season early into the first period. Danton Heinen and Jake Guentzel followed up with goals of their own to make it 3-0 heading into the second. Pittsburgh would go on to extend their lead thanks to goals from Brock McGinn and Teddy Blueger (2).
