Akai S900 Vintage Sampler Demo

This is a very raw demo of the Akai S900 12 bit sampler from 1986. All of the samples have been recorded directly into the S900 and hopefully show a little bit of the tonal possibilities of it. Samples are, after all, a very subjective matter, so I've picked sounds I like or that harken back to a particular era. All of the sounds I made mostly on the Nord Modular G2 and then sampled them directly into the Akai where I then reprocessed and reprogrammed them using the S900's excellent filters and envelope. Towards the end I play around with the infamous Amen break which was sampled at a low frequency (bandwidth in Akai S900 nomenclature) and lastly, an example of a drum track put together entirely with the Akai S900 in Logic Pro. Except for the very end drum loop, all the sounds are the raw Akai S900 recorded straight into Logic 9 via a Fireface 400.
