Evinrude e-tec. Evinrude Outboard Motors is a company that builds a major brand of outboard motors for boats. Founded by Ole Evinrude in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1907, it was formerly owned by the publicly traded Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC), and is now owned by privately held Bombardier Recreational Products. Evinrude outboards produce two-stroke direct-injected engines ranging from 25 hp (19 kW) to a V6 300 hp. They used carburetors until the late 1990s, when FICHT, a fuel-injection technology, was introduced. However, FICHT proved to be an unreliable system, and they soon switched over to a more modern high pressure direct injection system combined with an engine control unit (ECU). They have branded this system as “E-TEC“. They also provide four stroke outboards produced by Tohatsu, in the range of 3.5 to 15 HP.
