Japan surrendered to the USSR, not to the USA (part 1) This will take you by surprise, since American propaganda has been responsible for repeating the opposite for decades, but today we are going to stick to the data and you will see that it is true. The Japanese Empire was losing World War II, but it had no intention of surrendering. Emperor Hirohito was very clear about the only two remaining advantages he had, diplomatic and military, and both passed through the same country: the Soviet Union. Although the USSR belonged to the Allies and the Japanese Empire to the Axis, it had focused on fighting Nazi Germany, while the US focused quite a lot (although not only) on Japan. Although the Americans were advancing, the Japanese were resisting, and Hirohito was clear that, as long as the White House and the Kremlin did not get together, they could hold out.
