Visit Visit our website This raw news footage shows protest actions that were part of The Moratorium to End the War in Vietnam, which was a massive demonstration and teach-in against United States involvement in the Vietnam War. It took place on October 15, 1969, and was followed a month later, on November 15, 1969, by a large Moratorium March in Washington, D.C. The footage also includes strike and protest activities on college campuses around the country including Berkeley and Stanford. The footage begins with shots of a protester's sign indicating 45,598 American deaths in Vietnam (the final tally when the war came to a conclusion was more than 58,000). At (:26) protesters chanting “power to the people“ and “peace and freedom“ are shown on the move. At (:53), the Moratorium March moves through Washington, D.C. including banners for Vietnam Veterans for Peace, as the crowd chants “out now“. At (2:45), a man poses with a bumper sticker that reads “Nixon's Father Should Have Pulled Out Early.“ At (2:58) police officers including mounted officers are seen at the fringe of the protest. At (3:21) people sign up against the war at Stanford University. A “strike“ sign is visible on the college campus, and a sign directing people to go to the basement to get their payroll checks. At (3:56) protests on campus. At (4:07) additional peace protest footage and students with “strike“ banners. At (4:38) the California State Capitol Building in Sacramento is visible in the distance. At (4:45) a legislator speaks on camera. At (5:00) protest rally at San Jose State University. At (5:40) protestors sing “Give Peace a Chance“. At (5:54), a cartoon of Richard Nixon with the tagline “Der Fuhrer“. At (6:39) a sit in at an unidentified campus. At (6:55) brief shot of a protestor who has tied himself to a bridge to obstruct traffic. At (7:22) a “This University Has Been Liberated“ sign. At (9:19) a cartoon protest sign that says “Agnew knows best“. (9:30) protest outside Barrows Hall at U.C. Berkeley. At (10:11) a “draft card turn in“ rally.
