Sensei Funakoshi performs Naihanchi kata at Keio University in Japan. Note the higher stances and more relaxed postures when compared to the Tekki versions seen in the last few decades where Kiba Dachi are dropped as low as knee level and movements are often stiff and exaggerated. In 1921 Funakoshi was still teaching the Okinawan kata taught to him by Sensei Itosu who created the form. Eventually the postures, flow and even the bunkai would be altered to suit Japanese stylistic considerations and would be renamed Tekki with three versions (shodan through sandan).
