Original notes: Derek Bailey & Evan Parker The Incus Festival The Arts Theatre, Gret Newport Street London, England April 22, 1985 Set One: Derek Bailey Solo 1 solo 2 Set Two: Evan Parker Solo 1 Solo 2 Solo 3 Set Three: Derek Bailey & Evan Parker Duet 1 Duet 2 Duet 3 Private film recorded on Hitachi Camcorder with seperate portable deck. External sure microphone well for those that want it her it is. A rare gig of the two monsters of free improv playing together and alone Some wonderful examples of Evans circular breathing techniques here. Enjoy This was day one of the festival, I have the entire event. The filming was done in Dereks usual manner I would have to arrive 2-3 hours before the gig an setup. In the meantime Derek would soundcheck. He liked me to film a part of this an play it back to him in the viewfinder. He would then often rearrange the stage layout slightly to try and get the best light/view for the camera. At the time I was offered line feeds from Adam skeapings recording mics but as he could not generate a sync pulse we could not have co-ordinated them. I do wish i had take the recordings though as in these modern times they could be redubbed easily. Too late now, The Hitachi recorded onto a 3 hour VHS tape so this has now been copied onto dvd using a SONY RDR GX3 dvdrecorder. Then copied to the PC hard drive and authored with Tempgenc DVD Author 3. Please bear in mind that in 1983 portable camcorders were extremely usual pieces of gear. The total weight of mine with the recorder was 40 lbs ! They were nowhere near as light sensitive as they are now and the maximum zoom available was x6 !! Nowadays I often use x200 !! For all that these are timeless examples of free jazz by two of its greatest practioners Enjoy TECHY STUFF An audience recording
