In the 1920s, in the wake of the Russian Revolution, countless Russian and eastern European artists sought refuge in Berlin, where there was a more liberal climate for art and culture. There followed a great exchange of ideas and many fruitful collaborations with the avant-garde of the Weimar Republic. 100 years later, Putin's war of aggression against Ukraine has once again led many artists to seek their creative home in Berlin.
