Part Two: The Individual. This movie produced in 1950, is about a ghost who spreads germs all around the hospital. The purpose of the movie is to teach hospital workers what NOT to do by observing the bad habits of the ghost. It is filmed in black and white and the film is narrated. The movie opens with two men responsibly washing up in the men’s locker room. The wind is blowing and the door opens. A ghost walks through. He seems to be a former hospital worker. His name is Stoop Scattergerm 1:00. He’s getting ready to go to work at his favorite haunt - a hospital kitchen. The ghost gets dressed in front of the mirror dons a hat, lights a cigarette and heads to the kitchen 1:56. The ghost mis-handles the beverages while people wait, all the while smoking a cigarette 2:08. While preparing food, the ghost sticks his fingers in the food to taste it, sneezes into a dirty handkerchief, and then combs his hair all over the food 2:36. Scattergerm picks up a piecrust up off the floor and pieces it back together to serve 2:50. The ghost comes across a rack with leftovers from patients on the plates and proceeds to eat the leftover food 3:00. A chef opens an oven door, touches his finger to the meat, licks it and then touches the meet again 3:23. A woman, serving pie to a plate, touches each piece with her fingers 3:40. The woman nibbles at the pies and licks her fingers and goes back to touching the food that she is plating 3:52. Woman pouring drinks onto a tray from a pitcher touches each glass with her fingers by the rim 4:00. Bad habits are shown. Touching the eating areas of plates with your fingers, touching silverware on the eating ends, 4:10. Scattergerm is seen smoking and serving coffee 4:20. A man rolling dough with flour stops to rub his nose and then goes back to work 4:28. A woman scratches her head right over the food she’s preparing 4:34. The patient lies in bed eating his hospital food and finds a hair 4:45. Soldiers sit in the mess hall and eat. A soldier finds a hair in his food and gets up to leave 5:00. A woman works a dishwasher, touches the dirty plates on one side and without cleaning her hands, touches the clean plates on the other side 5:22. Microscopic view of germs 5:30. A man coughing in bed 5:40. A nurse takes a patient’s temperature 5:50. A man gets a shot in the arm 6:02. Men in a hospital bed with an intravenous 6:20. Man gets out of the toilet and washes his hands 7:00. A woman sneezes, uses a sanitary tissue and then washes her hands 7:28. A man gets an x-ray 7:45. A lab technician has a man put his apparently clean finger in a solution similar to what we eat. A few days later the germs are so thick that you can see them 8:20. A woman gets a checkup 8:30. A man takes a shower and washes vigorously 8:48. Neatness and uniforms are very important to hospital food service 9:15. A woman combs her hair in the bathroom and not out in the kitchen - she wears a hairnet 9:30. A man in the bathroom, in front of a mirror, combs his hair - he dons a hat 9:45. The woman serves the pie with two utensils and doesn’t use her fingers 10:05. A woman cleans her fingernails 10:25. Woman washes her hands thoroughly 10:35. Scoop Scattergerm watches a man properly draw a hot water bath with soap for the dishes and gets frustrated. He needs to leave the room 11:25. The ghost visits all the departments and is frustrated by everybody doing the right thing in the kitchen 11:45. A man washes his hands in the bathroom as the ghost looks on 12:20.
