Storm chasers Dave Demko and Heidi Farrar documented this VIOLENT “drillbit“ tornado from close range near Cherokee, Oklahoma during the major tornado outbreak on April 14, 2012. EXTREME wind velocities--likely well into the range associated with EF-5 damage--were responsible for the dramatic audible roar as the tornado moved within 100 yards of them. This was one of two simultaneous tornadoes that occurred at around 8:00 PM, and was produced by the same storm that went on to put down multiple long-track tornadoes across southern Kansas, causing damage in the Wichita metro area and McConnel Air Force base in Andover.
