In this workshop, we will examine key issues in classifying and studying different types and levels of Hebrew/Aramaic handwriting in the Dead Sea Scrolls. We will consider not only the differences in graphic appearance, but also potential causes and implications for textual and cultural research. In-person participants will also have the opportunity to try writing ancient scripts with the types of writing implements used by the scribes.
