During the Blender Conference 2018 in Amsterdam, I demonstrated a way of simulating optical lens systems in Cycles in order to create more realistic bokeh, including defects and distortions. I am NOT an expert in optical systems and have probably made mistakes in the lens designs, but the results turned out quite satisfying: cat's eye, aperture, refocusing, lens imperfections and narrow depth of field were all working (mostly).
