Sashiko threads are often thick and unruly. This can make it difficulty to feed then end through the eye of the sashiko needle. I think is was about 6 years old when my grandmother taught me this technique. She was a hat maker in Luton. The kind of person who always wore a brooch that had a needle and thread tucked in the back of it. Anyone needed a quick repair, or a button come off, she ready to go.
