#shark #strangestshark #seacreatures The frilled shark is a strange, prehistoric-looking shark that lives in the open ocean. These creatures can be found along the outer continental shelf and upper to middle continental shelf. They spend most of their time deep beneath the surface of the water. These shark are often called “living fossils“ because of their primitive traits, like their brown color, long body, and placement of their jaws. A “living fossil” is a species that hasn’t changed much since prehistoric times. The frilled sharks have a very primitive appearance and almost look more like a snake or an eel than a shark. Their body is very long and their head is flat with a rounded snout. Their throat is ruffled with six pairs of gills, which resemble collars. These collar-looking gills are the reason the frilled shark was given his name.
