The International Court of Justice ruled that the settlements of Israel in the West Bank and eastern Jerusalem were illegal, finding that they constituted a “de facto annexation” and were a violation of the Geneva Convention The International Court of Justice noted that Israel has accelerated settlement construction in the occupied West Bank, building 24,000 new units, thereby violating international law and creating an unacceptable living situation for Palestinians.
