In celebration of the opening of “Au Bois d’Amour” at ICA Miami, Alex Gartenfeld, Irma and Norman Braman Artistic Director, is in discussion with artist Claire Tabouret. The conversation centers on Tabouret’s new work, created for this exhibition, as well as her interest in art history and engagement with the medium of painting. Across two galleries on ICA Miami’s ground floor, “Claire Tabouret: Au Bois d’Amour” showcases several “Fluff” paintings, a set of monoprints, and a unique, artist-designed rug. The exhibition was specifically inspired by the qualities of immersive depth and materiality in Édouard Vuillard’s 1899 monumental, tapestry-like painting First Fruits, as well as by the work of Les Nabis, a group of late post-Impressionist artists known for their stylized, decorative depictions of nineteenth-century Art Nouveau interiors and verdant landscapes. With “Au Bois d’Amour,” Tabouret experiments with light, design, and materiality to engage a modernist tradition challenging the boundaries of art and decoration.
