For more: The Shanghai-based New Development Bank (NDB), also known as the “BRICS Bank,“ has been instrumental in shaping a new era for global development since 2015 and has mobilized resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in BRICS and other emerging economies and developing countries. The multilateral lender is also financing projects that contribute to digital connectivity, combating climate change and poverty alleviation. In this edition of Leaders Talk, CMG's Zou Yun sat down with Dilma Rousseff, president of the NDB since March 2023, to discuss the agency's achievements as more countries apply for membership. A staunch supporter of multilateralism, she advocates for a multipolar world where the Global South has a bigger say. Against the dominance of the U.S. dollar, Rousseff says the NDB will offer 30 percent of its loans in local currency to avoid forex fluctuations. She reckons that Chinese President Xi Jinping is a great leader and salutes his global initiatives, and she acknowledges that China will impact the development of mankind.
