There was a time when you could steal cars without needing a degree in engineering, but it appears this time has come and gone. A would-be carjacker in New Zealand found this out the hard way, when the Tesla he was attempting to steal presented him with a challenge he wasn’t expecting. Footage shared to Facebook shows the carjacker, wearing a fetching balaclava, approach the Tesla and open the door, as you do. Except the door wouldn’t open because there was no door handle. The door handles had retracted, a Tesla security feature, leaving the galaxy-brained thief helplessly scrabbling at thin air before the car drives off. As many people commented, if he was that smart he wouldn’t have chosen to target a Tesla in the first place. ‘Stealing a car that is GPS tracked, has eight cameras recording and the owner has the ability to stop the car from their app on their phone is peak dumb,’ wrote one viewer. And that’s assuming they even know how to use a door.
