Kevin was keen from the start to create a piece that was more than just aesthetic, something that had substance to it and would resonate. “He was influenced by films like THX1138 which for us drew up ideas we had been thinking about regarding other totalitarian sci-fi stories. The main commonality was that we all were interested in a collapse - a collapse of society and of a system. We liked the idea of projecting or echoing that in some way on the current world. “The main creative and technical challenges of the project were pretty much the same thing: how are we going to collapse this city? We wanted the concept of the film to work as an ethereal piece to parallel some of The Bug’s new tracks but also in some respect to literally envisage the destruction of the world. “We spent a good deal of time working out a balance of doing this literally, trying to make it read as a conceptual piece as well as a physical piece. We developed and built some really high resolution facade models to breakup in 3D. We actually had to really strip them down to get the collapse sequence to work but we were happy with the result.“ Schedule: “From early summer we had a 3-4 week pre-production period where we evolved the idea for how the narrative could play out over the video whilst our production team sourced and started to pin down locations and crew. We shot six locations in two days which was great although tiring. Two months of postproduction followed from the shoot running parallel to the edit.“ Director: Factory Fifteen For Nexus Producer: Beccy McCray Production manager: Caroline Milsom Director of photography: Luke Jacobs Focus puller: Tom Mcmahon 1st AD: Dan Precious 2nd AD: Alex Paterakis, Carmen de Witt Gaffer: Joel Rainsley Focus/gaffer assistant: William del Rivero DIT: Prince Yemoh VFX supervisor: Matt Townsend Animation/VFX: Alexey Marfin, Jonathan Gales, Paul Nicholls, Prince Yemoh, Isaac Eluwole, Carl Kenyon, Ares Simone, Roberto Brichese, Matt Townsend Tracking: Tom Carter, Kibwe Tavares Rotoscoping: Sinjarajan Studios Kinect character development: Eran Amir Offline editor: Paul Hardcastle Edit house: Trim Post production consultant: Dave Slade Studio manager @ Nexus: Natalie Busutil Art director: James Hatt Art dept assistant: Rebecca Carey, Michelle Renee Art dept runner: Arthur Menezes Stylist: Crissie Aranda Hair/makeup: Bobbie Ross Hair/makeup assistant: Maggie Forrest, Sharon Chagger Production assistant: Billi Hatfield Production runner: James Alexander Unit minibus driver: John Targgart Security: Per Doda Lead actor: Gary Grant Lead actress: Ani Lang Extras: Kimberley Goldsmith, Mark Craddock, Silvia Ferreira Santos, Susete Furtado, Justinas Vilutis, Eran Amir, Patrick Dishman, Freny Pavri, Roberto Brichese, Konstatin Zhukov, Peter Efe With thanks to: Kate Michelson, Pete Spence and all at Walthamstow Pumphouse Museum Trust, 5 Merchant Sq, Jimmy, Wayne and Godfrey @ Robin Hood Estate, Michelle Myrie and The Film Office, Vince, Rhian and team @ Film Fixer Flat design and build: Craft Design Designers: Armando Elias, Hugo D’Enjoy Toolkit 3ds Max,V-Ray The original films, music videos and motion design you see on STASH, took a long time to produce by some of the world’s top creative minds.
