In The Epic of Gilgamesh, Utnapishtim mentions the Annunaki during the flood story. As the storm approaches, the Annunaki, seven judges of hell, set the land ablaze. In later Assyrian and Babylonian myth, the Anunnaki were the children of Anu and Ki, brother and sister gods, themselves children of Anshar and Kishar (the celestial poles), who in turn were the children of Lahamu and Lahmu (“the muddy ones“), gatekeepers of the Abzu temple at Eridu, the site at which the creation was thought to have occurred. Last but not least, Lahamu and Lahmu were the children of Tiamat (Goddess of the Ocean) and Abzu (God of Fresh Water). Podcast Series, see dedicated playlist HERE for WEEKLY podcast.
