Composed in 1992 by Ian Krouse, “Variations on a Moldavian Hora” was commissioned by the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) to be the Set Piece for the International Concert Artist Competition that same year. Since I have been interested in performing modern music recently, I encountered this marvellous piece of music in my search and have been including it in my concert programs this summer. I really appreciate the intricate, delicate and at the same time, virtuosic nature of the piece. It creates a haunting feeling and also showcases the guitar’s polyphonic capability. I hope you enjoy this brilliant new work! Recorded in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Video and audio engineer: Drew Henderson Guitar: John H. Dick, double cedar top, 2014 Strings: Savarez New Cristal CR540
