FIFA WWC: Australia Criticises Gender Pay Disparity Australia’s women’s national team, the Matildas, has criticized the gender disparity in prize money for the World Cup and the lack of collective bargaining rights for some nations. All 23 players of the Matildas appeared in a video shared by the Australian professional players union just three days before the start of the tournament. The team has also called for all Australia’s A-League Women’s players to receive full professional status. While the total prize pool for the Women’s World Cup, commencing on Thursday, has increased by 300% compared to the 2019 tournament, reaching $110 million, it remains significantly lower than the $440 million awarded to the men’s teams in Qatar last year.
