Alkmaar, Holland. L/S of the town square. It is Friday, therefore it must be the cheese market! M/S of large round cheeses being stacked on the ground after being lifted from the back of a lorry. Camera pans along the cheeses - there is a lot of them! The cheeses are rolled along the ground from man to man and then stacked. M/S of group of men crowded around a cheese display. One man picks up the cheeses and raps them with his knuckles. Narrator states: “It's not sufficient for the cheese to just look nice, and a prospective buyer gives them a “going-over“ in more senses than one, before he is satisfied.“ C/U of the man inserting a metal instrument into one of the cheeses to pull out a sample. He smells the cheese and tastes a piece (he has a large cigar in his hand while he is doing all this). He decides to buy and he and the stall holder shake on the deal.
