Removal of the excess trim from automotive parts is an emerging application which is shown in this video. Ultrasonic cutting is the technology used which allows for the edges to be cleaned up via the removal of the excess material. Four 6-axis robots are used (in this case from ABB, but other robot suppliers are also used) to improve the throughput of the system and to meet the challenging cycle time (takt time) required by the customer. Robot integration allows the cutting to be accurately performed and ensures flexibility to cope with new tooling and component designs. A four station rotary indexer is used with 2 stations being processed (each by two robots) simultaneously. Tec Systems is highly experienced at integration of robots for welding and cutting using a number of processes including ultrasonics and laser processing. To find out more visit
