Lixia, the 7th solar term among the 24 solar terms, is the first term of the summer season. It falls annually between May 5th and 7th on the Gregorian calendar. During this time, the handle of the Big Dipper points to the southeast, and the sun reaches 45 degrees of celestial longitude. According to historical records, ’The handle of the Big Dipper points to the southeast, indicating the arrival of Lixia. All things have grown large by this time, hence the name Lixia.’ With the arrival of Lixia, everything becomes lush and thriving. After Lixia, daylight increases, temperatures gradually rise, and thunderstorms become more frequent. Lixia marks an important solar term that signifies the onset of the peak growing season for all things.
