Japanese diaper brand dumps hopes on adult products A Tokyo-based nappy-making company is squeezing into a new market sector by focusing on nappies for adults aged 65 and over, amid a population crisis in Japan. The birth rate in the Land of the Rising Sun continues to plunge to new depths, while the country tops the global list for ageing population. Yoshitaka Takebayashi, Senior Managing Director of Oji Nepia, said the company decided to fill the adult diaper niche since the bottom has fallen out of the market for children’s nappies in Japan, with demand dropping by almost 30 per cent between 2017 and 2023.
