Besides good luck and good fortune, the rabbit symbolizes renewal and new beginnings (coming from their appearance in early spring). The white rabbit is specifically associated with new spiritual beginnings, the release of old fears, and the welcoming of hope and possibilities. I love how bunnies bring a feeling of childlike wonderment and storybook magic. How lovely to embrace more of that wonder and curiosity in how we see the world every day. This ceramic bunny dish is made with a fern frond sitting on the dappled leaf. The fern frond is pressed into the clay leaving a detailed imprint of the leaf texture. The clay is formed into a dish shape and the sweet bunny is sculpted and attached to the piece. I love the soft watercolor look of the green leaves and the touch of gold - like a little bit of sunlight dancing on the leaves. The green leaves are painted with ceramic stain and the bunny is touched with a tiny bit of underglaze for the eyes and the pink nose. I find it really satisfying and therapeutic to paint the leaves - the color wicks into the lines and textures and is quite relaxing to watch. As you can imagine, I apply these color washes a lot in my work, but I never tire of doing it and watching the effect. After I finish with the colors, I apply ceramic glaze, coating the piece. The clay is fired to a high temperature over 2200F/1200C to vitrify the clay and melt the glaze. The soft surface shine is from ceramic glaze which melts into a coating of glass at the high temperatures. The gold is real gold, hand painted on and fired in the pottery kiln separately to bond the gold to the ceramic surface #bunnylove #sculpture #handmadeart #artprocess #vuvuceramics
