DENDRARIUM. Ikebana. Recitation is a performance created together with ikebana masters from Sogetsu school, shown as a part of my documentary project DENDRARIUM. As always, it started with a discovery. The true account of botanist and adventurer Vladimir Degtyarev (1885-1938), who traveled nearly half the globe in quest of a spot, captivated me. He hoped to construct a plant nursery to provide the Russian Academy of Sciences with uncommon plants. His ideal was never realized, but he regularly uncovered sites in various regions of the world, establishing one garden after another. DENDRARIUM's pulsating heart is the personification of these gardens – attempts, efforts, and dreams. The project visualizes five nature projects created by Degtyarev between 1890 and 1934. One of them is the arboretum, in the Solovetsky camp (1926), where Degtyarev was a prisoner 2nd of October, 2022.
