Cleanup crews are removing what had been a camp for the protesters at the University of California Los Angeles. Hundreds of protesters had defied orders to leave the camp, set up to protest Israel’s continued war in Gaza. The remaining protesters formed human chains in an attempt to stop authorities moving in, and in response the police used flash-bangs and other means to disperse the crowds. At least 132 people were arrested at the camp, which had seen several nights of clashes as attempts were made to clear the area. On Wednesday morning, pro-Israel protesters reportedly armed with sticks and pepper spray attempted to dismantle the camp, leading to further tensions. Similar protests are ongoing around the US, as demonstrators call on universities to cut ties with Israeli companies.
