Indonesian black metal is one of the most virulent scenes on the planet at the moment, throwing up band after band of incendiary, molten noise. Sounds of these recent releases range from bilious clouds of indecipherable noise, to needling sharp, blistering-thin trebly riffs of barbed static and many strains of delirium in between, often formed with an exceptional ear for a melody, and the ability to keep it audible under eons of dirt. Navalum occupy this latter ground, of keenly melodic riffs and buoyant compositions, with just enough noise and dirt to keep it resolutely lo-fi. If this is not already on a label’s cards for a release soon, then the subsequent releases surely will be. Another one to watch. PLUS, we award them a thousand bonus kvlt points for that incredible roosting bat logo too.
