In my tutorial on embroidery fill stitches, I teach a traditional Crow’s Foot stitch, done in a triangle shape. Someone asked if it could be stitched into any other shapes, and of course, I couldn’t just say yes – I had to try it! Turns out, crow’s foot likes to make you think it’s not working. It looks like a mess, you think there’s no way this will be okay, and then, as if by magic, it turns out great! Unless you try to sew it in an octagon… then not so much. Basically, acute angles are Crow's Foot friends; inverted angles are confusing, but once you figure it out, they work; 90 degree angles are okay; and obtuse angles stray from the original brief (because you can't really fill in the whole shape). I’m stitching with DMC cotton perle thread on a linen material in this video. Happy Stitching!
