200th Independent Attack Aviation Squadron is the first operational unit to employ Su-25 in Afghanistan. Under codename Operation Examen, it deploys to Shindand air base in July, 1981 After several days of familiarization, the first combat sorties are flown against Mujahedeen fortified positions around Kandahar. Comrade captain, I beleive that your familiarization flights have gone well and you now know your way around this part of Afghanistan. As you know, our Army comrades are in great need of our help. Recon units have located two fortified positions ovelooking a highway near Kandahar. From those positions, rebels have performed several attacks against Soviet vehicles which makes supply efforts rather difficult. The quickest way to eliminate these threats is to destroy them from air, and that is why we are here. You will be assisted by our comrades from 217th Fighter-bomber regiment who share the base with us. Their pair of SU-17 will take off just before you and locate the targets. Once you approach the target area, they will mark the first bunker for you with smoke rockets. They will observe the results and inform you when you are successful. Once you destroy the first bunker, they will proceed and mark the second one with smoke. Once it is also destroyed, you can all return to base. Some anti-aircraft defense is expected in the form of light guns. There is a small chance of rebels using captured shoulder launched SAMs as well, so beware. Your primary weapon will be heavy S-24 rocket. You will also carry small calibre S-5 rocket to attack anti-aircraft defense if necessary. Good luck, comrade captain!
