Biotope concept: The B-system A true biotope aquarium (B1) In a biotope aquarium the fishes and plants occur together, in other words they form an assemblage in a biotope. A water system aquarium (B2) (for example Orinoco River and its drainage basin is a water system). In a B2 scape the fishes and plants occur in the same water system, but are not found together in this water system. Thus they do not share the same biotope in this water system. In other words they do not form assemblages in this water system. When no evidence (scientific or by actual footage (video/photo) of the biotope) of species living sympatric in nature, the aquarium will be categorised as a water system aquarium (B2) instead of a biotope aquarium (B1). This is for example the case in many inundated areas. A habitat theme aquarium. (B3) In a B3 scape the fishes and plants are found precisely in similar habitats but are from different water systems in the same continent (for example from Negro and Orinoco river basinsin South America)
